The Mothers' Approval

Warmth. That’s all Kai could feel as his lashes slowly flickered open, eyes still heavy from the late night he and Reita had pulled. Having taken off his glasses before he’d fallen into bed, the only image he was met with was a blond blob sleeping to the side of him, hands curled under his face and using them as a temporary pillow. Kai smiled.

After he had successfully broken himself out of the almost comatose state Reita had put him in with his blush inducing compliment, Kai had quickly recommended they have a small movie marathon of some sorts. He’d directed Reita to the movie shelf while he escaped into the kitchen and made them a quick bowl of popcorn and poured them each a cup of cola. It was enough time for him to clear his thoughts and get back into a normal, non-flustered, state of mind.

…And if he would have known that was the only calm moment he would have had for the rest of the evening, he would have cherished it all the more.

Upon walking back out into the family room, he found a grinning Reita standing by the TV, and when he looked to the side and found the stack of movies the blond had chosen, he knew exactly why…

Harry Potter. All eight of the freakin’ Harry Potter films.

So much for a short movie marathon.

And for the rest of the evening, Kai had felt like ramming something into his ears so he’d go deaf. Reita had proven to be one of the most annoying people to watch movies with. He was worse than Aoi and Ruki combined, and that was saying a lot.

“I can’t believe they didn’t put Peeves in the series, what the fuck is wrong with them?”

“Oh wow, what, they have like one Quidditch match compared to the millions there are in the books? How fucking stupid.”

This didn’t happen! That didn’t happen! They should have done this!

By the time they’d reached the third movie, Kai couldn’t have been more grateful that his mother had shown up with bags of groceries that she needed help with.

Kai had of course told Reita he could continue watching, but Reita had insisted on pausing the movie and helping in whatever way possible. So both found their way into the kitchen, helping Kai’s mom, who couldn’t have acted more thrilled if she tried when she found out her ‘baby’ had a new friend; an extremely polite one at that.

After minutes of his mother awing over the blond, she’d excused herself into her room for the night, giving Kai money so he and Reita could order a pizza for dinner.

With pizza and another bag of popcorn, their movie night had continued to be just as frustrating with Reita’s complaints, lasting until five in the morning with the sun just peeking above the sky when he and Reita crashed into his bed for the night.

And even with how painstakingly annoying Reita had been last night, Kai couldn’t make the smile that etched across his face as he continued to watch the sleeping blob next to him. There was just something about Reita being so comfortable with him already that made Kai turn into this grinning mess. That, and even in blob form, Reita looked…Cute.

Turning slightly to his side, Kai grabbed his glasses that were resting on the night stand and quickly slid them on, only to fall back into his sleeping position and jump about a mile out of bed.

His heart began racing at a level deemed less than healthy as he spotted Reita’s brown eyes ogling into him, a curled smirk on his thin lips.

“You snore.” Reita said playfully, his smile only growing bigger as Kai’s face flushed to a very unnatural shade of red.

“I-I do not!” Shouting defensively, Kai at up in bed, bringing his knees to his chest and squishing a pillow between his thighs and belly.

Reita followed his movements, the blanket that was covering his body falling and exposing a bare chest and torso. Kai turned an even darker shade of red, his breathing becoming near none as he stared at his friend’s toned, pale body; mouth falling open and stomach clenching with warmth.

When the hell had Reita taken off his shirt!

Yes, you do, but that’s ok,” the blond leaned in close, his face next to Kai’s and smile nearly touching Kai’s own wide open lips. Fingers again combed their way through Kai’s thick, mocha hair, Reita’s hot breath whisking across his parched lips, “your snores are just as cute as the rest of you.”

Kai couldn’t take it anymore. Every syllable to roll off of Reita’s tongue made his entire body feel as if it were entrapped in a blaze of fire, his skin turning redder than the blood pumping through his veins. Throwing the pillow he had in his grasp at the blond, Kai quickly bolted for the door, explaining to Reita that he was going to take a quick shower and then would make them some breakfast.

His quick shower turned into a near 45 minute one, the brunette unable to remove himself from under the cool spray until he felt his skin cool from that undying heat. Upon walking back into his bedroom, he found the room completely empty, bed made, and the only proof that Reita had ever been half naked in his bed a little less than an hour ago was the blond’s travel bag stuffed into the far corner of the room.

He had no time to even think of where the blond could have possibly gone, because before his brain could begin to function properly, he heard loud cackling coming from the kitchen, the smell of pancakes and eggs filling his senses almost instantly after.

Practically running into the kitchen, he was half shocked, half confused by the image he was met with. His mother was sitting at the small table, reading a newspaper and smiling just as wide as he typically did; a plate of breakfast half eaten in front of her. Reita, on the other hand, stood at that stove wearing the brunette’s mother’s frilly pink apron, spatula in hand as he flipped an oversized pancake, and continuing to babble nonsense that made Kai’s mom constantly smile.

“Oh, Kai honey, come sit! Reita has insisted on making us a late breakfast. It taste wonderful!”

Kai stared aghast at his mother. Normally when he had Aoi or Ruki over, she would hide out in her room until they left, only to come out and ask Kai how their visit had been when she was certain they were gone for the week. But here she was, talking to Reita, interacting with him and actually seeming happy.

It’d been a while since Kai had seen her smile so warmly. It made him do the same.

Pulling out the seat across from his mom, he sat, turning his attention to Reita straight away. “Rei, I told you I was going to make us breakfast, you didn’t have to do this.”

“I know, but I wanted to. Besides, who’s to say your cooking doesn’t completely suck?” Turning from the stove, Reita walked towards Kai, flopping a stack of pancakes and some scrambled eggs onto his empty plate.

“HEY, mom says my cooking is going to make my future wife very happy some day!” Kai pouted.

“We’ll just have to see about that now won’t we, Kai-chan~?” And again, Reita teased, his unoccupied hand ruffling Kai’s damp tress and causing the brunette to swat his hands away.

A snort tore them from their bickering banter, both teens’ gazes shifting to Kai’s mom, and both going completely silent as she accused them of acting like a happily married couple.

After breakfast, Kai’s mom left for work and the two friends finished the last two movies of the Harry Potter series together. Again, Reita bitched throughout the entire 4 hours, and again, Kai remained silent and mentally decided that he was never going to go to the cinema with the obnoxious blond.

It was shortly after that Reita had to go home so he could study and get a head start on his homework before Sunday, and it was only as Kai was standing in the door way seeing Reita out did he become as flustered as he’d ever been before.

“Sooo, Kai. I had fun this weekend. How about I pick you up Friday and we can actually go out and do something?” He was bouncing back and forth on his heels, thumbs wrapped in the straps of his backpack.

“S-sure,” smiling and giggling cutely, Kai adjusted the frames of his glasses, skin heating again as Reita grabbed his arm, pulling him a bit closer.

“You know,” he started, voice low and whisky, “What your mom was saying about us being a married couple? Yeah, I could definitely see that happening.”

Before Kai could say anything even close to a protest, Reita planted his lips against his heated cheek, only to run off with a valiant grin, waving as he shouted he would see Kai at school on Monday.

A gasp and hesitant pause later, Kai ran back into his room, picking up the notebook Reita had read out loud the night before, quickly jotting down something new he found he liked about the blond.

His touch feels sincere, his lips are smooth as silk…

I want to feel them everywhere.

Author's Note: Hehehe, anyone actually remember this little series? It's been a good three months since I've updated, sorry about that! But to be completely fair, I did say I'd update this sporadically seeing as it's not my main objective, so yeahh. xD I'm going to try and have the next one of these up in the next two days, because ya know...V-day. And I figured some of you may enjoy a short snippet of Reikai for the god awful holiday ^^

I swear, this is simply the CUTEST little series ever!

Looks like Reita has successfully impressed Kai's mum~ she totally knows what's going on. More than Kai does it would seem xD Poor bb, he's so timid and adorable. Hopefully he'll get to feel his lips ~everywhere~ soon ;D

Totally love how Reita couldn't shut up about how the movies deviated from the books btw. Probably because I'm exactly the same, I was fuming when I watched both 'Never Let Me Go' and 'A Clockwork Orange' >_< I don't care if your name if Kubrick, where the hell did the last chapter go?!?!?! /rages

Ahem, so anyway! I know I'd certainly enjoy another update in time for V-day *_* Who needs a boyfriend when you can have fluffy Kaita/Reikai? ^_~
Thank you for the lovely update, it was definitely worth the wait! <3

Reita's smoooth~ He knows how to warm his way into a mama's heart ;) Ahh, poor bby Kai xD He doesn't understand anything cause he's been too involved with his books for all these years :P

I think anybody who has read a book that adapts into a movie turns into a raging cynical bitch when the movie does something completely wrong xD Especially when it's something BIG.

And you'll most definitely be getting one ^^; I have it all typed and ready to go, just gotta edit and post after I get done replying to everybody :P Pshh, boyfriends are useless unless they're fictional (well, in a sense xD) and dating another boy ;)

I don't think I have ever squealed so much before over a fluff fic like now. KAI'S MOTHER LIKES REITA!!! And the "married couple" bit...EEEEEEEE!!!!!!

Kai, I just want to squish him right now because of how adorable he is XD!

Squeal away~ :P This is just so much fun to write, and so RELAXING compared to the usual angst. And of course Kai's mom likes Reita, he's a book nerd just like her son xD

I feel Kai just may keep getting more and more squeezable throughout :'3 Reita's going to bring out every level of adorableness he had :P

Oh, gosh, darling. I love this series so so much. Seriously, it's just so outrageously fluffy and cute and I just want to squish the two of them together.

Like, this is causing some damage to my fluff receptors because it's so unbelievably cute (not that that's a bad thing). I love how shy Kai is and Reita kinda seems like the type that people would expect to be the dumbass kid who always gets into fights, because of his clothes etc. But he's actually a total bookwormy nerd ^_^ He reminds me a bit of myself because people expect me to be super angry and hardcore and scary because I wear black and studs and have piercings and all those lovely things, but in reality horror movies scare the shit out of me, I am a huge sucker for romance, I'm a huge bookworm and I love video games. Wow, that was very long-winded, sorry about that. But essentially I'm telling you that I love it! I also happened to read this (as in the whole series so far) on my phone while I was in class which was a bad idea because I ended up grinning like an idiot and my class was looking at me like I was mental. My teacher just laughed at me xD

Anyway, sweetie. Sorry about that little rant. I can't wait to read more from you <3

It's a bit cavity inducing, isn't it? xD But I can't see Reikai as anything BUT fluffy. They're just so goddamn cute :P

Cutie pie Kai is at it again~. I feel Reita is a lot of us during our HS days. Like, jesus, I was the same as you. All black, heavy eye liner, you know, all that snazzle. One look at me and people thought I was this rebellious little asshole of a pot head - something that is the FURTHEST definition of me. xD I was the silent geek who got upset over bad grades and always did as the teacher told me to do :P

Haha, if only your class actually knew what you were reading ;)

I'm really glad you're enjoying so far. The next little segment shall be up sometime today~ :3 Thanks again!

*cries happily because I don't know what to do with myself after reading that*

And I completely agree with Reita! I would have been there right next to him critiquing xD

*hands tissues* :3

I'm not a Potter fan myself, but I feel a lot of fans would critique the movies such as, because really, who doesn't when it comes to films be adapted from books? xD

I'm glad you're enjoying this little series thus far, the next one should be up sometime today ^^;
